Jesus was a radical! Rabbi Jesus was on the edge of his culture. You see this as you read the Gospels. You see this when you read the ways that he understood scripture and dealt with issues of his day like Sabbath, Forgiveness, Taxes, and Violence. You can get a strong look at Jesus’ radical ways when you see how he related to the Power of his day and the Power-less of his day. Most people know that to get anything done, you have to work with Power. Jesus did the opposite. He railed against Power and worked with (and for) those who are without Power.
Yes, Jesus was a radical in his day and time. He did not compromise his principles in order to get along. It was his going against Power that got him killed. And it was his standing up for the little guy that gave power to the church founded in his name.
This is the Christ Jesus that we are remembering, studying and worshipping this whole month of August. I hope that you will join us at worship - either in The River at 9:35 or Traditional at 10:55.
